AMKA is governed on the basis of a constitution that was executed in 1997 by the founders. The Constitution provides for a nominated Board comprising of women and men, with diverse qualifications and experiences. The Board governs the Organization, approves plans and budgets, provides guidance and policy direction, and approves staff appointments.

The day to day running of the organisation is carried out by a secretariat that is headed by a director, who is also secretary to the Board. The secretariat comprises both full time and part time staff as well as volunteers. We have established a network of district coordinators and mobilizers to mobilise communities on the ground and at the same time increase the visibility of the organisation.
